Islamabad police capture ‘terrorist’

ISLAMABAD: The capital city police have arrested an alleged terrorist with the help of intelligence agencies from the Margala area, recovering explosive material from his custody, police said.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Syed Kaleem Imam, when contacted, confirmed that the terrorist, identified as Zahid Iqbal, belonged to Meramshah, South Waziristan and was an active leader of the Tehrik Jihad-e-Islami, involved in the kidnapping of Hamed Mirza, son of Air Commodore Farhan Mirza, and killing of Maj Gen Alavi.

He said the terrorist was an ally of Ilyas Kashmiri and Maj Haroon. “He is an expert in preparing explosive jackets and bombs and manufactured the explosive stuff in Kala Dhaka,” the IGP said, adding that he was also an expert in sniper shooting.

During interrogation, the terrorist disclosed that terrorists were present in a hideout in the mountains of Kalar Kahar, the police sources said and added that teams of civil and paramilitary forces had been sent to hunt them. The sources engaged in the investigation of the case said that the suspect’s identity card and passport bore his picture without beard.
